On Saturday 21st December, Thomas and Bett joined other churches in our area to run a stall at East Street Market, talking to people in our area about what the Church of England is doing in this area, and what was going on around Christmas. We also gave out a lot of chocolate.
St Christopher’s Church and Pembroke House are delighted to invite any and all to the Advent Carol Service 2013 at 6pm on Saturday 7th December. The theme of this year’s candlelit service is The King and His Kingdom.
We are joined by the Choir of Pembroke College, Cambridge who will be singing carols by Bach, Vaughan Williams and some modern English composers. And warm yourself up for Christmas by joining them in singing some of the best traditional advent carols too!
All are welcome to the bring-and-share dinner after the service.
Date: Saturday 7th December
Venue: Pembroke House

On Friday 29th November, Thomas our Pastoral Assistant joined 100 others sleeping rough in the churchyard of Southwark Cathedral to raise money for The Robes Project. The Robes project is the only homeless shelter between London Bridge and Croydon, and it costs over £80,000 to keep the 20 sites and 400 volunteers going for the coldest four months of the year. It is estimated that 500 people sleep on the streets each night in London.

O Lord, you said that even animals had their own homes, but you had nowhere to lay your head. Cover those who sleep on the street with your protection, surround with your love those who are ignored and rejected by the rest of us, and give us the strength and the will to do something to help them. This I ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Thomas and friend Sophie after the 6:30am Mass to pray for the future of the Robes Project. A grand total of 6 hours sleep was had between them!
