We are blessed with a lively and enthusiastic group of under 11s at St. Christopher’s and we aim to integrate them into the Church family, to encourage them to develop a personal understanding of the Christian faith, and to help them grow in faith through fun, fellowship and food! The first Sunday of the month is an All-Age Service, and children of all ages are encouraged to serve, read, pray and even help with the sermon! During the 10am Parish Mass on all other Sundays, colouring sheets, books, and quiet activities are provided for under 4s in the Crèche whilst the Children’s Church meet downstairs.
Children at Primary School are invited to join one of the ministry team to explore the theme of the day during 10am Parish Mass. The Children’s Church meets in the Lower Hall, and the children take part in a range of activities from Bible Study and imaginative prayer to themed games and music. Their programme compliments the theme of the liturgical year and parents are encouraged to discuss the theme of the day with their children at home. Once a term, a group of 12 Pathfinders (aged 8 – 13) meet for games, activities and focussed discussion. The Pathfinders also have a busy social life and have recently enjoyed trips to a Fireworks’ Show, Nando’s, and an overnight camping trip too! We would love for the Pathfinders’ group to be able to meet more regularly. Please contact out Rachael Gledhill, our Children’s and Youth Worker, if you feel you might be called to work with this group.
At St. Christopher’s, the PCC have supported children over the age of 8 through encouraging them to receive communion prior to confirmation, once they feel ready, and after attending a 6-week preparation course. We are all delighted and excited by this, and the children enjoy attending classes, designed by Sarah Lentern, packed with games, fun and lots of interesting discussions with one of the ministry team, followed by a shared hot meal together!
During school holidays, children enjoy a range of activities from crafts and activities held at church, Nativity Play practice, cooking, baking and trips out. Last year, the children enjoyed a fantastic day trip to a rural farm in Sussex! Their favourite parts included a tractor ride, playing hide and seek in the woods, stroking all of the animals, and most of all, meeting Basil the dog!
Children of all ages are encouraged to engage with the whole community of Pembroke House by joining in groups such as the Music Academy, IntoUniversity, dt17, the garden group and much more!
Families with children of all ages are also warmly invited to attend St. Christopher’s Messy Church on the first Sunday of EVERY month from 4pm – 6pm for themed activities, games, crafts, science experiments, music, storytelling, and a hot meal!
