What is PAM?
Pembroke Academy of Music (PAM) is an open access music project for children and young people aged 6 and above living in the immediate area. We provide high-quality music tuition in a range of musical disciplines (music theory, instrumental practice and choral singing), at subsidised rates for all pupils in order to make tuition affordable to children who would otherwise not be able to afford it. Over 77% of parents say they would not be able to pay for music lessons elsewhere.
Our volunteers help with the administration of the Wednesday evening sessions, including setting up lesson areas, taking attendance, assisting tutors, singing in the Community Choir, and spending time with children and assisting their learning.
What are we looking for?
We need volunteers who can make a regular commitment to Wednesday evening sessions from 6pm – 9.15pm. We ask for a commitment to at least one term of classes, to come to every session and to be punctual.
Volunteers should have a strong musical background: pianists especially welcome!
What would you gain?
This role is ideal for anyone wanting to gain experience of teaching and working with children, particularly in a musical context, and community centre involvement. We pay reasonable travel expenses and provide ‘on the job’ training and support from a named supervisor
