St Christopher’s Church Walworth
Organist / Music Leader
St Christopher’s Walworth is looking for a creative musician who can accompany its Sunday services and help to develop the worship of this exciting and vibrant community.
About St Christopher’s
St Christopher’s Walworth is a joyful, passionate and diverse place that sits within the Open Catholic tradition of the Church of England. We love the Bible, we love the Lord Jesus, we love to sing and we try to love each other! We also love parties.
Located off the Old Kent Road, in south-east London, we’re on the edge of Zone 1. We form part of a Settlement of Pembroke College, Cambridge (1885), so we share our worship space with many wonderful community projects (education / community cohesion / health & mental health). Our building was fully refurbished in 2009, giving us a beautifully airy, flexible, light and warm space in which to worship.
We have a Yamaha Clavinova, a moveable Steinway Grand and an integrated sound system.
Our congregation is mostly West African and loves to sing with vigor. We’re looking for a flexible musician who will enable the congregation to express the joy and passion in their hearts. At the weekly parish mass we sing traditional hymns and mass settings with bursts of African chants. We want to add some modern worship songs and foster a breadth of culturally and theologically appropriate worship styles.
- To accompany Parish Mass on 3 Sundays per month
- To develop an occasional music group for special services
- To build on the variety of musical styles already used
- To begin to integrate more modern worship music into the repertoire
