What is the Community Garden Group?
Every Friday afternoon from 2-4pm, the Garden Group enjoys our pocket garden where they grow food, dig, harvest produce and relax over a cup of tea. The group continues to meet all the way through the winter months when they keep warm, pot seedlings and share news in our garden room.
As well as a space for keen gardeners who might not have their own gardens to enjoy, the Garden Group offers support to people who are facing challenges in their lives.
Our volunteers are invaluable for the time they can spend listening to participants as well as helping with gardening activities.
What are we looking for?
No gardening experience needed! We need volunteers who are friendly and enthusiastic and happy to listen to participants as well as helping with tasks around the garden when needed.
Volunteers come from 1.30-4.30pm on Fridays so that they can help set up and look after participants who arrive early, and then clear up at the end.
A regular commitment would be great but we can be flexible.
What would you gain?
Garden Group volunteers have the opportunity to enjoy our outdoor space while giving back to the community in a very tangible way. Over time, we can all see the difference their contribution makes to the garden and to the participants.
We enable volunteers to learn gardening skills and encourage them to share their own knowledge and expertise.
We can pay reasonable travel costs and always offer a cup of tea!
What do the volunteers say about the Wellness Garden Group?
Every Friday, James comes to chat with participants of the Garden Group over a cup of tea. He enjoys tending the garden beds (“Get your hands dirty or wear gloves!”) though he’s the first to admit that there’s a fair bit of eating cake or cinnamon buns involved too… As he says, “It’s a social gardening group!”
