What is our Lunch Club for Older People?
Every Thursday we have around thirty older people join us for a two course lunch, friendly conversation, dancercise, bingo and knitting.
We rely on our fabulous Lunch Club team of volunteers to help cook, set up and welcome guests.
What are we looking for?
We’re always looking for friendly, kind and enthusiastic volunteers to help out. A regular commitment would be great but we can be flexible.
We have two groups of volunteers:
- Our kitchen team help prepare lunch from 9:30am to 2pm, under the supervision of our cook, Ismail.
- Our ‘front of house’ team serve food, mix with our delightful and fun group of older people, and to welcome newcomers from 12noon to 2pm. This may include calling bingo!
What would you gain?
Getting involved in the lunch club is a great way to get to know a wonderful group of local people and give back to the community. We can pay reasonable travel expenses and lunch is provided free of charge. We would love to have you on board!
What do the volunteers say about Lunch Club?
Hazel started volunteering at Pembroke House’s Lunch Club just over a year ago, after seeing the position online. She decided to help out in the kitchen because she enjoyed cooking at home and wanted to learn more from our chef. She says:
“I love volunteering at Pembroke House because it gives me confidence. I feel very welcomed and it makes me really happy.”
